Personal accident insurance

This provides a 'no-fault' compensation for individual and affiliated club members of Mountaineering Scotland up to the age of 80 and resident in the UK or Republic of Ireland who are injured whilst participating in a mountaineering activity (as defined in the Liability section) anywhere in the world (includes direct travel to and from the activity within the UK only). 

From 1 January 2026, this cover is available for both Club and Individual (ie those with Individual (Adult/Youth), Concession, Mountain Training Candidate, ClimbScotland Gold or 18-25 membership) members of Mountaineering Scotland and now also includes:

  • Event fees cover up to £150 
  • Climbing wall membership fee cover up to £250

Injury arising out of: 

  • In the event of a claim for any Insured Person aged 70 years of age or over Personal Accident Special Extensions are all reduced by 50%.
  • Residents outside of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Isles, and Republic of Ireland.
  • Professional sports person or professional entertainer.
  • Suicide or deliberate self-harm.
  • Engaging in aviation as a pilot or crew member.
  • Member of the armed forces whilst on active duty.
  • Post traumatic stress disorder, psychological or psychiatric condition.
  • Repetitive stress (strain) injury or syndrome.
  • Driving whilst under the influence of alcohol over the legal limit.
  • Any act of terrorism.
